IN: The interviewer
VO: Voice Over, also the interviewer
DF: David Faustino

VO: Fans of the hit show "Married with Children" known him as Bud, the teenager from hell. But in real life, young star David Faustino [pronouced as Fow-stino (!)] is no obnoxious adolescent. In fact, he comes from such a wholesome background that the racy dialogue on the show used to make him cringe. Here's the inside word from David himself.

clip from 416 - "Goo goo ga goob, Mrs Robinson"

VO: Bud Bundy on television's "Married with Children" is the very definition of the obnoxious adolescent male. The actor behind the character, David Faustino, is nothing like the coniving smart-alec Bud. And that surprises many of his fans.

DF: If you don't act like Bud, it kinda disappoints them, but um... so I try and to, you know, do a little bit of it and be cool, but they really think that you are Bud Bundy when they see you on the street.

clip from 418 - "Hey, I'll be there... with a date"

VO: Being confused with a character that can't get a date, means Faustino doesn't attract squealing female fans, like say, Kirk Cameron from TV's "Growing Pains".

IN: Do you find that fame helps to attract female attention?

DF: Well, that's one of the things about the character that I play, like, 'cause if I was on another TV show; just a regular family kid, it would be kinda different but I don't know - something about Bud the Stud, they're like "Bud the Stuuud!" (laughs) Here I come! (laughs)

VO: While the annoying Bud Bundy is hardly a sex symbol, his curvaceous sister Kelly definitely is. The fact is driven home nearly every time Faustino runs into male viewers of the show.

IN: When you're out on the street, how do people react to you?

DF: If it's a guy, it's "Where's your sister?" That's the famous line - "where's your sister?" They don't care about me, they just want to know where Kelly is.

VO: Faustino doesn't seem to mind playing a distasteful character, however he does admit that in the early days of "Married with Children", he was uncomfortable with some of the raunchy dialogue on the controversial sitcom.

clip from 418 - "Good one, Human Trampoline"

DF: When I first started out, um, the jokes, I mean, it was like real risque - and still is, the show, but I've, you know - I understand it more now... but when I first started out, um, it was like, it was kind of embarrassing when my parents were there - some of the things I'd have to say, in the script.

VO: While David has gotten used to the lines written for his character, he hasn't gotten used to what's written about him in the tabloids. He's learned that when you're famous, a lot of lies are printed about you.

DF: Ah, like, when I pick up an Enquirer, or whatever those magazines, I actually - I admit it - I believe what I read in there. You know like, "he did that!", you know and I believe it, and now it's getting done, it's getting written about me and I'm like "wait a sec..." maybe, you know, maybe these other people didn't do what's written in there.

VO: But David Faustino has few complaints about achieving success at such a young age. Besides, he's having a lot of fun. As David says, he gets to say and do what most American teenagers would get killed for.
