Al Bundy And The French People

Hey guys, I have always wondered why does Al Bundy hate French people??? Can someone explain me?

Maybe it's also because it's said that french don't like to speek english - only french.

His disliking(hatred?) goes even deeper. Well, remember trip to England, and the museum of wax figures? One family came by some four hideous monsters, and walked away without expressing emotion. So did the other, and the other family. Then Bundys came in and when the serial family turned around and saw Bundys they screamed in fear. Then Peg asked 'Why are they so scared about?' and Al replied, 'They're probably french, they're afraid of anything'. Well?..

What u said is only one example. In many series he shows he hates french... But why exactly french?.........

That was no justification, but the contradiction to Daniel's opinion on french people not willing to speak english. I just said there's more, that's it. Can you not remember an episode where Al explains his feelings about them, Dan?

I have to admit it... I'm French

So why Al hates french ? As you know all people have prejudices about other countries. In many countries, they believe that french people are dirty and stink. So in USA it's common to think that french are cowards, stink, drink always wine, etc... It all comes from rumors and part of history. In the past maybe something happens during a war and it ended up like this: french are cowards. Then nowaday french don't want to make a war

and finally many will think that the rumor was true: they are cowards !
They think french stink and meet one who is B.O. and they keep on feeding the rumor.

For some people it's a preconceived knowledge, and others know it's wrong. But whatever they think, french is a good 'material' to make joke in USA.

So making Al Bundy a French hater is a thing very funny for americans. Some people can think it's racism because it will make laugh real french hater for the bad reasons. But let's be smart, it's only joke based on a cultural background rumor and it would be too bad to not laugh about that because of racist people. It's only JOKE !

And in the french dubbing version, there's no adaptation, Al Bundy still hates french and it makes me laugh

My first question is already answered (if the dubbing changed anything with the french-jokes).

I have never heard this prejustice that frensh are dirty and stink.

But I think the jokes about the frensh people or country are not so hard.
If that would be jokes about my country I could laugh about it.

I agree, I like those jokes as long as it's humor.

By the way, you never heard about those prejudices about French ? Maybe it's not an European thing. I bet you all know the english expression: 'to take the french leave'. But as I said it comes probably from old conflicts because we have the same in french: 'filer à l'anglaise' which means 'to take the english leave'

About the french who are dirty and stink, it's maybe an American stuff. I mean, do you know the animated cartoon Pepé Le Pew ? it's a french skunk !? lol

So blind people can hate them too !

That's maybe why Al hates french, just some kind of cultural jokes. There's no prob about that...
