What is Al short for?

Post by drshoe1979 » Wed Feb 18, 2009 11:29 am

I know it was never mentioned on the show, but has it ever been revealed elsewhere?

I'm 98% sure that the answer is no.

No, it was never mentioned on the show. And as far as I know also not off-show.

maybe his parents just named him al. they did show his drivers license once and it said al bundy. my grandparents were hill billies and i have an uncle whos first name is bill (not william) jack (not john), but the best is uncle junior. he is not named after his father, his first name is junior.

I don't see anything wrong with being named simply Al.

I thought there was an episode where it said it was short for Alphonse.

If he had an English background I'd hedge my bets on it being Alistair. But I reckon you're about right with Alphonso. He looks like an Alphonso type of guy.

What's the source for that?

Not that I really doubt you.

I was watching the episode Shoe Dick tonight and I noticed this for the first time….

Mrs. Shoe thought thinks it says "Alvin P. Bundy." She thinks she can see the dot of the "i" in the script (much clearer when you watch it). This is just a picture of the paused screen I took with my phone, so not real clear. What do you guys think?

I think I would be disappointed if his name was Alvin. Such a wussy name :)

I also like the middle name Hercules…but I suppose he has 2 middle names. Both times we get middle names they are in dreams.
