I was just thinking that the short story arc of Steve and Marcy's breakup gave us some really great episodes:

976 Shoe and Who'll Stop the Rain are in my top ten.

And Steve's return in The Egg and I, Peggy and the Pirates, and Get The Dodge Outta Hell are also some huge fan favorites...all are result of David Garrison's decision to leave the show.

if Steve would have stayed there would be no Jefferson too to think...

Yeah, I always loved it when Steve came back. Made for some great episodes.

I really like that Steve got a proper story arc (and that their relationship was disintegrating from the start of the season, if not before) and didn't just disappear suddenly.

Yeah, Seven was sort of abrupt wasn't it, not that we cared. I mean his screen time disappeared slowly and surely but his presence was just BAM gone. Peggy and Marcy's pregnancy really couldn't have been dealt with any other way. One wonders what the show would have been like had they gone on with that.
