e-mail notification when a posting is made

Post by Dr. Shoe » Sat Dec 22, 2007 2:08 am

Okay, here's an idea. Sometimes I go a few days without checking albundynet. Daniel, is there a way you could put on an option that will automatically send an e-mail whenever a new posting is made? Right now I get them only on topics I have posted on before. It'd be cool if we got e-mails whenever any posting was made ever. This could be an optional feature what do you think? I think it would get some more conversations going. We'd be more likely to get more No MA'AMers online at the same time. Just a thought. Merry Christmas to all of you and have a Bundyful Life!

Yeah I'd like that as well, even though I access the site pretty much daily. It would be a nice feature to the forum.

Merry Christmas :P

Uhhh whenever a new posting is made.....
The problem is, that not everybody would like that.
But maybe I find a mod/hack that supports that kind of stuff.

You could make it an option on the profile so not everyone would have to get an email every time a post is made.

Well the new years stuff is over. What do yout think Admin? Do you think it could work? And yes like Axel said it could be optional. That way hardcore No MA'AMers could use it and we could leave the rest of the world to thier tissue and cheese infested lives!

It would be possible - but at the moment I've no time programming it.

There are two steps todo:
1) send a mail when a new topic is created
2) make this optional for every user

Other ideas:
- last postings as RSS fead
- set the forum as your default website in your browser :P

What do you think though Daniel? Do you like the idea? I was wondering if you get an automatic e-mail whenever there's a new topic? I figured you might since you're the honcho and everything. I thought the idea rather brilliant myself. :)

The idea itself is not so bad. But as I wrote - the time is at the moment that problem. I've no time programming that.

But let's wait some weeks maybe I'll find some time then.

Hey no pressure here. You've got things to get done. As Hondo said (insert John Wayne accent) "A man's gotta do, what a man's gotta do." Besides, for all I know about technology it could take years to do. Good Luck!

i've been thinking about that special topic. Maybe I'll develop something.
I thought I can create a open group "get email notification on every new post" where everybody can subscribe (the group system is already integreated into the system). So I've only to check the members of that group and send them an email when a new topic is beeing created.

I'm also asking what would be better:
- send an email just when a new topic is created
- or send one email (with all new topics) once a day

Send an email just when a topic is created is better I think. That way, if someone is online they can answer the topic and a discussion can start right away, or fi the topic starter needs help he can get it faster.
