Mama's Family

Post by Dr. Shoe » Sat Feb 07, 2015 4:53 pm

Mama's Family has recently been released on DVD and we've been rewatching them. I remember watching it as a kid. You guys might like it. It was a FOX show that overlapped a little with the early years of MWC. So there are a few regular extras that you'll recognize. Also, Thelma is a bit like Al, a traditional grandma who resents modernity and isn't afraid to use her mouth to say what she thinks about it. It is funny stuff. Also, it is set in a town (Raytown) that borders the suburb of Kansas City where I live. Though the town has changed a lot in the last 30 years.

In case some of you don't know, Mama's Family was born from several skits on the Carol Burnett Show.

I thought that was Blanche on the cover! Was confused since you said it overlapped with early MWC, when she was on The Golden Girls. Turns out she was on the show a couple of years before The Golden Girls.

Haven't seen this, but know it's been referenced quite a few times.

Perfect example, Miss Hardaway, yeah she has a major character beginning with season 2.

Beverly Archer! I just put her on the MWC facebook page.

This show ran 1983-1990, that's actually longer than I thought. Don't think it got much air time in Australia.
